Prof. Aguilera has been president of EIT Health Spain (European Institute of Innovation and Technology in Health) (2019-2021). Founding member of EAMBES (European Alliance of Medical & Biological Engineering Society) and member of the board of directors (2005-2009). Prof. Aguilera is a member of the Scientific Council of the “Gadea Foundation for Science”.

Abstract:

Prof. Aguilera will provide an overview of his long research activity in biomedical engineering at UPM, centering the discussion around the UPMHealthTech initiative, which he coordinates as the Rector’s delegate for BME and health technologies. UPMHealthTech is a community combining the Educational, Research, and Innovation capabilities of the Universidad Politécnica de Madrid. It fosters interdisciplinary collaboration in Biomedical Engineering and Health and Wellness Technologies. The seminar will cover the following topics: 1) Education: Prof. Aguilera will provide a brief overview of UPM’s bachelor’s and master’s degrees on biomedical engineering and health technologies; 2) Research and Innovation: Prof. Aguilera will explain main UPM main research areas and fields, with a spotlight on activities at the Centre of Biomedical Technologies (CTB). Prof. Aguilera will delve into his three personally established labs at CTB, such as the one devoted to ICT for personalized medicine (showcasing examples such as BME for artificial pancreas, mHealth, and precision nutrition for oncology, etc), the one for Medical Imaging and Surgery (featuring examples of VR surgery and intelligent Operating Rooms), and the one focused on Neurorehabilitation and Brain Health. Finally, Prof. Aguilera will provide a brief presentation on the Spanish Society of Biomedical Engineering, of which he is the president.
