BIOGRAFIA

Margherita Matarrese graduated with honors from Campus Bio-Medico University in 2020 with a BSc in Industrial Engineering and later earned an MSc in Biomedical Engineering with a curriculum in Biorobotics and Bionics. In 2019, she spent three months at Boston Children’s Hospital working on her Master’s thesis under the supervision of Dr. Tamilia and Prof. Papadelis. This experience solidified her interest in researching neuroscience to improve children’s health.

Since November 2020, she has been a PhD student in Bioengineering at Campus Bio-Medico University of Rome, in cooperation with the Jane and John Justin Neurosciences Center of Cook Children’s Hospital, under the supervision of Prof. Filippi and Dr. Papadelis. She successfully defended her thesis in April 2024. Her research focuses on pediatric epilepsy, specifically investigating how epileptic activity propagates within the brain and developing biomarkers to improve the localization of seizure-generating areas in children with drug-resistant epilepsy.

In December 2023, she joined the Intelligent Health Technologies Lab as a Post-Doctoral Associate. Her current research includes the application of artificial intelligence in medical imaging and broader applications of neuroimaging, alongside pediatric epilepsy. She has published several peer-reviewed research articles, presented her findings at international conferences, and serves as an ad-hoc reviewer
