BIOGRAFIA
Joseph Lovecchio earned a double PhD degree in Biomedical Engineering at the “Alma Mater Studiorum – University of Bologna” and at “Reykjavik University”. He carries out his research activity in the field of tissue engineering and biomaterials, with particular interest in the design and production of bioreactor systems, the use of 3D scaffolds for the engineering of biological tissues, the implementation of AI-based in vitro assay and diagnostic methods. From 2018 to 2022 he was a Post-doctoral Fellow at the Alma Mater Studiorum – University of Bologna with an active role in research projects (e.g. BIOBOS, DINAMICA, EIT4ATI) focused on innovative technologies in diagnostic and therapies. Since 2019 he held the role of lecturer in Biomaterials, Biological Engineering, and Tissue Engineering both in Italy and abroad. From 2022 to 2024 he worked at the Medical Technology Center – Department of Engineering – University of Reykjavik, Iceland as PI of the qPROFILE research project, funded by the Icelandic Center for Research (RANNIS) for an amount of 23937500 ISK. Since 2025 he is the PI of the SISTINE research project, funded by the Italian equivalent of the ERC Starting Grant, the FIS Starting Grant, for an amount of 1.3 million euros. Joseph collaborates with leading national and international research institutions in the field of tissue engineering and regenerative medicine (University of Salerno, University of Bucharest, University of Göteborg), and the study of tumor diseases (IRST – Istituto Romagnolo per lo Studio dei Tumori, IOR – Istituto Ortopedico Rizzoli). He is member of the Italian Society of Muscles, Ligaments and Tendons (I.S.Mu.L.T.) and Italian Mesenchymal Stem Cell Group (G.I.S.M.).
