BIOGRAPHY
Dra Ovejero graduated in Experimental Sciences from Universidad Rey Juan Carlos (URJC) in Móstoles, Spain. She completed an internship in the Imaging Unit laboratory at the National Centre for Cardiovascular Research (CNIC) in Madrid. Karina obtained an official master’s degree in Translational Medicine Research at the Faculty of Medicine, Complutense University of Madrid (UCM). During this time, she gained extensive experience through internships in the Nanobiotechnology, Molecular Imaging and Metabolomics laboratory, and the Microscopy and Dynamic Imaging Unit at CNIC.
In 2024, Dra Ovejero obtained her PhD in Pharmacy (Cum laude) from the Faculty of Pharmacy at UCM. During her PhD studies, she was awarded a grant from the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD), which allowed her to undertake a 7-month research stay at the Institute of Medicinal and Pharmaceutical Chemistry at the Technical University of Braunschweig in Germany.
Her research line focus on the design, development and characterization of several nanomaterials for biomedicine. More specifically, she worked with multifunctional nanoparticles for the theranosis (therapy + diagnosis) of different diseases like cancer or cardiovascular diseases. Her multidisciplinary research has led to the publication of several book chapters and numerous articles in high-impact journals. In addition to her research, Dra Ovejero has also taught in the Pharmacy degree program at UCM.
